Rare Antique CHINESE SCHOLAR’S CHAIR CHINESE OFFICIAL's CHAIR or Yoke Back Chair , Fishing Chair Qing Dynasty (1800-1849) - Northern Elm or Huang Huali This Rare antique Chinese Scholar’s Chair, is likely from the Qing Dynasty (circa 1800-1849). Also called an 'Official's Chair' or‘yoke back’ chair sometime a fishing chair. Probably provincial origin. Northern Elm, or possibly Huang Huali wood. Completely hand made ‘dry fit’ construction using mortice tenon technique - no nails! Varnished around 1910 to enhance the beautiful wood grain. Some age appropriate wear. In Chinese culture, Scholar’s Chairs were presented to highly respected officials. While this Chinese Scholar's Chair is technically a piece of furniture, it is even more a rare example of hand-carved, hand-made antique Chinese Folk Art.
