Dealer, Oil on Canvas, Bearded Purple and White Irisis, Victorian, Reynolds 1919
Bearded Iris have always been a good subject for a still life. They have a timeless beauty that has captured the eye of many artists. The artist has all the technical elements down but not yet a masterful stroke and as you said, this might be an early piece by the artist. I think the frame is older than the painting ita hand carved all wood no gesso, with campus leafs scrolling. The frame is worth what I am asking. I can read the name Reynolds and 1919 but not the first name may start with a J_. There is writing and a part of an old sticker on the back shown in photos. 16" 22" Stretched Canvas 21" x 28" frame. It has some chips of paint missing mostly around edges and is very dirty.
